I have family in Detroit; I’ve been going there to visit my whole life. I’ve seen many of the phases of Motor City. There are still some areas that are not pleasant to go, but the city is seeing a huge renaissance. It’s so great to see! There is plenty to do there and it’s well worth a visit.

Food/drinks

Apparatus Room

Motor City Brewery - one of my uncle’s favorites before he passed and therefore a frequent family gathering spot. They have some great beer and pizza.

Atwater Brewery - another family favorite

Two James Distillery - Near Corktown a small historic suburb near downtown Detroit, Two James is one of my favorite distilleries. They make a peated bourbon that I just can’t get enough of: J. Riddle. The disillery is worth visiting, they make some killer cocktaials, or you can taste any of their large variety of spirits

Art/Museums

MOCAD

Detroit Institute of Arts Museum - they have some huge murals by Deigo Rivera and the amazing Center for African American Art

Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum is an arcade and museum located in West Bloomfield, Michigan. It features a large collection of vintage arcade games and other coin-operated entertainment machines, most of which are functional and can be operated by visitors.
